Who we need
Reporting to the Director, Project Management, we are looking for a Senior Business Analyst who wants to play a critical role-taking our organizational project planning and delivery to the next level. This is an opportunity for someone from a smaller organization who wants to increase their ownership and exposure. Or someone at a bigger organization looking to make an impact, bring their insights from technical projects and gain recognition.
You will act as an internal consultant eliciting, analyzing, and validating business needs and translating them into project requirements and objectives. You will focus on a wide range of projects from the acquisition and deployment of systems to operational management and optimization to ensure ITS meets the needs of the business. In addition, you will take a process-oriented approach to assist business transformations through process mapping, analysis, and optimization.
What's in it for you
Autonomy and support. With over 50 projects in the queue, you will have autonomy and ownership over projects that will service staff, faculties, student services, and operations from enterprise-wide application deployments to critical infrastructure updates. This is a task-driven role based on detailed, collaborative planning. You will have the freedom to work flexible hours and work remotely. The focus is to deliver key objectives. You will be part of a team fostering a collaborative and supportive spirit. This is an opportunity to be mentored by a Director deeply invested in teaching and knowledge sharing.
A blank slate. This is a newly created opportunity. You want to channel your motivation in a transforming environment. You will have the opportunity to introduce best practices and processes based on your experience. You will help us set up a rigorous system to evaluate the need and priority of projects at a high level.
The chance to be part of an academic institution. If you are interested in teaching and education, you will gain exposure to the inner workings of the university. You will see the impact the projects you work on have on the front end - and conversely, be able to identify the needs of the staff and faculty to aid with project urgency.
What you will do
- Collaborate and evaluate. You will partner and effectively communicate with business leaders and stakeholders to determine and articulate project requirements, scope, and vision. You will provide analysis and insight to better understand the impact, and priority of projects and how they align with the organizational strategy.
- Plan and execute. You will work alongside project managers and other ITS staff to deliver assigned projects while adapting to competing demands, organizational changes, and new responsibilities. You will:
- Conduct interviews to gather user requirements via workshops, questionnaires, surveys, site visits, workflow storyboards, use cases, scenarios, and other methods.
- Translate stakeholder requirements into comprehensive user stories, process flows, functional and non-functional requirements.
- Assist project management. You will draw on your research and findings to create detailed business requirement documentation. At the project's onset, you will help lead discussions on technology selection, project deployment, QA/testing, documentation and change management to ensure successful project delivery. You will continue to manage ongoing project documentation, communications, and reporting.
- Contribute to continuous improvement. You will identify gaps in the project delivery process, review and analyze current approaches, and develop strategies to implement enhancements to increase efficiency.
What you bring
- The education and experience. You may have post-secondary education in computer science, information technology or business administration, but we recognize that not everyone gains their skills through traditional academic streams. You have 5+ years of experience as a Business Analyst from requirements gatherings to implementation. You know how to break needs down into user stories and translate and give directions to ensure we build to specifications. Your attention to detail guides you. You are invested in satisfying the needs of your clients, and you work hard to do it well, on spec, and on time. You investigate issues thoroughly and create effective solutions that solve problems and open up new opportunities.
- The project management. You have experience working on multiple simultaneous projects of moderate to high complexity. You can confidently lead the technical design, planning, execution, and implementation of security requirements. You have excellent organizational skills in a demanding, multi-system environment. You are always looking for ways to improve processes, and you always ensure deliverables are met on time, with clearly communicated changes.
- The interpersonal skills. You are highly collaborative and can easily work across internal and external teams. You have flexible communication skills and the ability to build trusting relationships between business and IT stakeholders. You can translate technical language and concepts to a non-technical audience and can confidently present to stakeholders at any level. You can create and facilitate IT security training workshops and reference guides.
- The growth mindset. You continuously seek opportunities to learn and apply new skills, share knowledge, and build a collaborative network. You can quickly pick up new software without documentation or hand-holding. Your commitment and focus influence those around you to do better.
